Can using ChatGPT make you dumb?

Technology

MIT conducted a major study on the impact of using artificial intelligence (like ChatGPT) on the brain and productivity.

They divided participants into 3 groups:
1️⃣ A group that used ChatGPT only
2️⃣ A group that used search engines
3️⃣ A group that used only their own brains (pen and paper)

Each group was asked to write 3 essays using the tools available to them. At the end of the experiment, the groups switched tools with one another.

The results? Shocking.

The ChatGPT group performed the worst across all levels:
🧠 Lower brain activity compared to the other groups
😴 Signs of laziness and lack of effort in writing
📝 Their essays were very similar, with little originality
❌ When discussing the essays, they couldn’t defend them because they had forgotten the details
🚫 No sense of ownership over the text because they didn’t actually write it themselves
💭 No real ideas or depth in their arguments
💔 No emotions, no stories, no personal experiences—nothing that truly connects with readers

Does this mean ChatGPT is bad? Of course not.

These tools are an important advancement for humanity. But the key difference is 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺:

✅ Use it to help you generate ideas
✅ Use it to review your work
✅ Use it to open doors to new research and information

❌ But don’t:
Rely on it to write everything for you, stop thinking for yourself, or give up your sense of accomplishment.

Because if you do… your intelligence may decline, your memory may weaken, and you might feel like you’ve lost your passion.

And worst of all? It might even make you less happy. 😞
